What is a good Spanish course for someone who knows French?

November 14, 2008 by · 2 Comments

I know French and so I can understand *loads* of vocabulary passively, and I know basic Spanish phrases as well. So I am looking for a course which I won’t get bored with because its too easy or moves too slowly.

Answer
You’ll pick up Spanish quickly if you have a good knowledge of another romance language.

e.g. Michel Thomas vocab CDs, Pimleur etc.

Good luck!

How important is learning Spanish as a second language?

November 14, 2008 by · 7 Comments

How important is learning Spanish as a second language?

Answer:
If you think about it, Spanish is the second most spoken native language in the world. True English is more widely spoken, but in the future business will shift to Latin America and China. There are 1.2 billion Chinese who speak Chinese and 1.1 Billion people in Latin America. So if you want to be successful, Spanish is a good way of doing so, unless you want to learn Chinese which is the other language I would recommend for you to learn.

Do you know of any summer programs to learn spanish while teaching english/volunteering?

November 12, 2008 by · 4 Comments

Does anyone know of programs (that are not too expensive) where I could learn spanish while teaching english or volunteering? I only know basic spanish currently, but I would like to go next summer, and leave as close to fluent in Spanish as possible. I have heard that you can work for your room and board, and maybe even get paid, or get a living stipend. I also would like to go with my boyfriend, and live together.

Best Spanish language school in Salamanca for 4-6 weeks of intensive course?

November 10, 2008 by · 1 Comment

I have no prior Spanish experience so I am a true beginner. Which school should I go with? I dont need many activities etc. since I can do that myself out of school. Daily 4-6 hours of courses would be fine. Is University of Salamanca the best option?

I listed some links below. U Salamanca is good because it has 36000 student so you'll have lots of young people and many occasions to find student activities. But any other place in Spain where there is a large student population would be great. Good luck!

How many weeks of Spanish course shall I take in order to enter Spain university?

November 7, 2008 by · 1 Comment

I intend to study abroad in Spain. I would like to go Salamanca University to have my intensive Spanish course(25 hr per week) for about 2 semester(approximately five and a half months), and i will stay with Spanish speaking family for around 3 months. Is this duration of course reach the standard of entering Spain university? [I will be quite hardworking, i guess ;)

Any other advices or recommendations of living and studying in Spain are very much appreciated, thanks.

It always depends on you and your ability to pick up a language. Typically full immersion together with classes will give the fastest results compared to other methods of learning a language.
If your native language developed from Latin, this time will definitely be enough. You will find that there are many similarities with your native tongue and some stunning differences. If your native language is part of the Indo-European, the Slavic, or the Finno-Uguric familiy I would still expect you to reach sufficient fluency in approx. 6 month immersion with classes. If you native language is not part of any of the above mentioned groups you might need longer. But since you already write English you should be fine with 2 semesters.

Start with our free Spanish course listed here on the right
