Thinking of going on a Spanish course in Chile, thoughts?

November 18, 2008 by Admin · 13 Comments

Question asked by Spanish Student:

I’m thinking of traveling to Chile for a 2-week language course to learn Spanish, in summer 2009. The course includes a 2-day excursion to a ski resort high in the mountains above Santiago.

Just wondering if anybody has done anything like this, or would recommend it and why?
Spanish is a language I would like to learn to a conversational level, and I have always wanted to visit South America, and understand that Chile is one of the more safe and stable countries.
Thanks.

Answer By Spanish Language Teacher:
Definitely do it!! On of the best ways to learn another language is to immerse yourself in a place where they speak it. Also you’ll get to know the culture better and gain an awesome experience. You will not be disappointed

How difficult is it to learn Portuguese from Spanish?

November 18, 2008 by Admin · 3 Comments

I wish to learn Portuguese, but the University I am attending only offers Spanish. I have elected to learn Spanish, but was wondering about the extent to which my knowledge of Spanish will be transferrable to Portuguese?

If it helps, I'm pretty good at learning languages.

Knowledge of Spanish makes learning Portuguese alot easier, that's for sure. So it will be easy, especially if you're good at learning languages.

Here's a podcast for Spanish speakers wanting to learn Portuguese (Specifically Braz. Port)

Where can I find Spanish chat rooms that are good for people learning the language?

What is a good Spanish course for someone who knows French?

November 14, 2008 by Admin · 2 Comments

I know French and so I can understand *loads* of vocabulary passively, and I know basic Spanish phrases as well. So I am looking for a course which I won’t get bored with because its too easy or moves too slowly.

Answer
You’ll pick up Spanish quickly if you have a good knowledge of another romance language.

e.g. Michel Thomas vocab CDs, Pimleur etc.

Good luck!

How important is learning Spanish as a second language?

November 14, 2008 by Admin · 7 Comments

How important is learning Spanish as a second language?

Answer:
If you think about it, Spanish is the second most spoken native language in the world. True English is more widely spoken, but in the future business will shift to Latin America and China. There are 1.2 billion Chinese who speak Chinese and 1.1 Billion people in Latin America. So if you want to be successful, Spanish is a good way of doing so, unless you want to learn Chinese which is the other language I would recommend for you to learn.
